#5 – Be in My Best Friend’s Wedding

See the full collection of bucket list items here.

I met my best friend when I lived in Colorado. We waitressed/bartended together. While we weren’t sure of each other at first, one night we were forced to work together behind the bar at the same time. It was cramped and we had to work as a team for everything to run smoothly. By the end of the night, we were already on our way to becoming the best of friends. Now, I can’t imagine my life without her. She’s a beautiful, hilarious spitfire, loyal to her family and friends.

It was hard leaving her to move back to Minnesota. We went from spending every weekend together, hiking, shopping, watching movies, going to beaches, and tons of sleepovers, to just seeing each other once or twice a year. The year that I moved home was also the year I got married. I, of course, asked her to be my maid of honor. Nathan and I were married on a cruise ship, which meant we were able to hang out with all of our friends and family for an entire week!

She threw my bachelorette party in Denver, CO, which was super fun. She went above and beyond for everything.

When it came time for her to get married shortly after, she asked me to be in her wedding. I was ecstatic! She has a twin sister, whom she asked to be her maid of honor. That worked out perfectly for me because I was able to help plan pieces of her bachelorette party from Minnesota, but I wasn’t running the whole show.

I had to miss her bridal shower, which killed me. First of all, I LOVE bridal showers (and baby showers). I have a weird obsession with watching people open gifts. Second of all, I wanted to be there on that fun day to enjoy and celebrate her!

I did make it down to pick out dresses and for her bachelorette party, though. Picking out dresses was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be, since I hate clothes shopping. Getting to be with all of the bridesmaids, whom I absolutely love, talking about how excited we were for her destination wedding, and bachelorette party was a ball!

Her bachelorette party was seriously amazing! We all had such. a. fun. time. We pre-gamed at her sister’s house, went out for dinner downtown, and then went to the strip club and bar hopping afterwards. Who would have known a strip club could be so much fun! They had a table in the wayyyyy back for the male dancers – but, man, those dancers were fun!

Anyways, I digress.

So, her wedding was down in Mexico at a beautiful resort on the ocean. They were married on the beach with the waves of the ocean crashing in the background – it was gorgeous. It meant the world to me that I was able to go on this whole wedding journey of picking out dresses, talking about planning, the bachelorette party, and everything in between, and on top of all that - stand by her side on one of the most important days of her life.

Because her wedding was a destination wedding as well, we, again, were able to spend an entire week together – exploring Mexico, swimming in the ocean, riding this giant whale, and remembering why we are best friends.

It was the trip of a lifetime that I won’t ever forget. We did make a pact to vacation with each other once a year, so we can continue spending at least a week out of each year together.

Just a reminder: Our world is such an amazing place. There is no reason for anyone to not enjoy their lives they way they were meant to. We only get one life. We get one shot. Are you wasting it, or are you living it to the fullest?

#47 - Drive Route 66 (Part 2, Our Trip)

We started our journey on December 16th, 2017 and got home on January 1st, 2018. We live in Minnesota, so the first couple of days were just getting to Chicago for the beginning of Route 66. We visited our friends in Madison, WI, who graciously let Nathan, me, and our dog Rocky stay with them for our first night. I was dreading having to sleep in the back of the truck in December in Wisconsin. We had a ton of blankets (I'm talking like 15 super warm blankets, so we would have survived, but... you know... sleeping in our friends' heated house was amazing.

The next morning, we drove to Milwaukee, WI to visit some more friends and have breakfast with them.

Now that we were done visiting most of our Wisconsin friends, we were ready to start our journey on Route 66, so we headed out to Chicago, where we visited the Chicago Skydeck, which was amazing! The views from up top were breath-taking. As we looked out the windows, there are pictures that show you exactly what you're looking at in the distance.

We tried our first ever deep-dish pizza and Chicago-style hot dog. Seriously, the deep dish pizza was one of the best things I've ever eaten! We also visited the bean (Cloud Gate) in Millennium Park, but we got kicked out because dogs are not allowed in that park. Super weird, but actually understandable since it was really crowded. We decided it would be unsafe to spend the night in Chicago in the back of the truck, so we did splurge on a hotel room that night.

We spent the rest of the day and the next morning walking around the city, taking it all in. There were actually a lot of people visiting from Minnesota that we kept meeting. A sign marks the beginning of Route 66 downtown. Signs like that are all along the route to help keep you on track.

The next day, after we were out of Chicago, the winding down began. I finally felt like our trip was beginning and I sensed the stress of my job, the big cities, everything just melting away. We were off the highways on side roads, following the original Route 66, which helped with less traffic, and set the path for a much-needed wind-down.

We drove through Illinois, stopped at the GatewayArch, and kept going until we hit the border of Missouri.

We made our way across our beautiful country stopping at all of the Route 66 attractions we thought sounded interesting (after sitting in the car for hours, keep in mind that interesting is almost anything). We stopped at a lot of abandoned towns, which I found oddly fascinating. I realize this is the definition of an abandoned town, but there were buildings just totally left behind, including decrepit furniture, toilets, everything! We found a motel that still had beds, tables, everything still in the rooms, with the ceilings caving in. It was just crazy to see! While I realize these small buildings are not safe, we did walk around in and around them trying to imagine what they looked like and feel the energy that they used to have.

We drove over every bridge that still allowed traffic, which was terrifying at times, but I really wanted to say we did it!

Just some of the attractions we stopped at were:

  • Meramec Caverns in Missouri. These are miles of naturally formed caves. Nathan loved all of the history these caves had to offer. Originally they were used for shelter by Native Americans. Then they were mined for an ingredient in gun powder during the Civil War and later used for shelter by Jessie James.

  • Blue Whale in Oklahoma. This was really cool! A guy built it for his wife back in the 70’s. We climbed around in it. There was even a ladder to the top!

  • Cadillac Ranch in Texas. Cadillac Ranch was pretty cool to see. It was a little disheartening seeing the millions (literally) of spray paint cans littering the ground. Apparently it's a thing to bring your own spray paint and douse the cars in paint. While Nathan was more sad about the cars being ruined by getting put in the ground, I was sad that people are so self-centered (is that the word I'm looking for?) that they can't even throw their cans in a garbage!! It was still a really cool sight to see.
  • The leaning water tower in Texas is an awesome act of physics!

  • Also in Texas - there was also a whole field dedicated to Stations of the Cross - life-size statues of each station (the steps Jesus took when he had to carry his own cross to the final place where he would be nailed to it and left to die).
  • Meteor Crater in Arizona. Meteor Crater was created when a meteor hit the earth around 50,000 years ago. It's about a mile wide - so it's pretty amazing to see!

  • The Petrified Forest (AMAZING!!) in Arizona.  The Petrified Forest is a whole park of trees that have turned into rocks. There are tree stumps in the ground that have turned to rocks, where you can still see the tree rings.
  • The Silver Moon Cafe in Santa Rosa, NM had some of the best Mexican food I've ever tasted.
Along with all of these things to see and do, there were some other, slightly more weird things we saw on our trip like the Rocket Man, also pictured.

We drove through Los Angeles where we noticed their population sign said something over 4 million people. The whole STATE of Minnesota has less than 6 million. That was astonishing!

While the attractions were really fun to see, I think the best part of the trip was spending quality time with my little family. We talked about everything imaginable and honestly, we never ran out of things/places/ideas/dreams to talk about.

Read a little more about our Route 66 experience in Part 3, coming up in a few days! We saw the weird lights above California while we were camping!

Reminder: Our world is such an amazing place. There is no reason for anyone to not enjoy their lives they way they were meant to. We only get one life. We get one shot. Are you wasting it, or are you living it to the fullest?

#47 - Drive Route 66 (Part 3, Our Crazy End to the Trip!)

We made it to California, but decided to spend the night in one of their national parks right before we head through LA to get to our final destination - Santa Monica!

We slept in the back of the truck most nights on the trip. At first it was difficult. We found rest stops along the way and parked the truck to sleep. Those nights were noisy. There were constantly headlights blowing by the truck. There was no privacy to change or anything, obviously. We knew that wasn't going to work for the whole trip. After a couple of nights of doing that, we started planning our days around ending at a national park. We paid a small fee to get into the parks so we could spend our nights and mornings waking up to the following picturesque scenes instead of gross rest stops.

We relaxed, went on some small hikes in the forests and around lakes, had bonfires, and ate simple suppers and breakfasts. It was like a really long camping trip without waking up to the same view twice, which meant, every morning was a new view that would take my breath away.

While we were there in California, we relaxed by the bonfire, brought our dog for a hike, and talked about what else we wanted out of life. It was a nice beginning of the end of our trip.

It got dark but neither of us wanted to go to sleep. It was such a beautiful night and the stars were immaculate. When we looked up at the sky, we saw the following:
These lights kept going on and on. They were moving! It was the craziest sight! We looked on social media, and people were already posting about them! Apparently it was a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that nobody knew was going to go that night... hmmm... very odd.

Anyway, the next morning, we made our way to Santa Monica. We watched people working out at Muscle Beach and then walked down the Santa Monica Pier to the end of our Route 66 journey. We made it!!

We were sad to get to the end, but seeing that 'End of the Trail' sign left me with a huge sense of accomplishment!

We made our way straight back home, spending nights with friends on the way.

Our world is such an amazing place. There is no reason for anyone to not enjoy their lives they way they were meant to. We only get one life. We get one shot. Are you wasting it, or are you living it to the fullest?

    #11 Shoot a Gun

See our full list of bucket list items here.

I’m going to be honest here – both of us have shot a gun in our lives.

My dad put me through a gun safety class when I was around 11 or 12 years old.

Nathan went shooting for the first time last summer with his buddies.

What spawned us to put this on the list, though, was that my dad and brother are hunting fanatics. They love shooting and they are both really good at it. Nathan had just bought a new rifle that he hadn’t tried yet and we’ve had it for almost 5 months.

We had never been shooting together, and I hadn’t shot a gun since my class 15 years ago – by the way, it is crazy and terrifying that I can say, “Oh yeah, remember FIFTEEN years ago when …” AHHH!

I didn’t know if I would like shooting or if it was just going to be meh… So, we wanted to try something new to do together.

Nathan and I went to my parents cabin last weekend with my mom, dad, brother, my parents’ dog, our dog, and our cat J It was pretty crowded, but in an amazing way.

My dad, brother, Nathan, and I just got done being outside in the snow all day – sledding/ snowmobiling/ four-wheeling/ and dirt biking (we got it all in!) and were coming inside to get warmed up. We ate dinner, and normally would have cozied up and watched a movie.

Nathan was pumped, though, from all the adrenaline he had from the activities earlier, so he wasn’t ready to settle down.

“Does anyone want to go shooting?”

My dad was tired, my brother seemed set on winding down, but I was all for it!

    “Yeah, let’s go!”

My brother nods and now my dad’s excited.

“Plus,” Nathan adds, “this will be perfect for your scrapbook” he says to me with a wink.

I didn’t want to tell my family just yet about this blog… because I’m introverted, yet again.

“Oh yeah!” I remember that shooting a gun is on our list!

We get to the “shooting range” which means a dirt pit with piles of dirt/mud everywhere, but they work for stopping bullets.

We set up a board with some targets on it and the boys take a round with Nathan’s gun, which is “awesome” and has “like no kickback!”

Now it’s my turn. They set me up in the correct stance. I remember from the class a million years ago, that I’m actually left … sided/handed? when shooting – I see better out of my left eye than my right. I’m standing there with the gun.

I didn’t voice any concerns to the guys, but I’m still me, so I have my list going in my head:

    • I have my ear buds in, check.
    • The gun didn’t backfire/kill any of my family members that shot it so far (remember it’s a new gun, so that had me on edge), check.
    • Hands: sweaty, check.
    • Holding the gun correctly, crap, I don’t know anymore. “Hey, am I holding this correctly?” – “Yeah, take the safety off” – Okay, so I’m holding it right.
    • Safety off, check. Alright this is the real deal.
    • Wait – “Am I standing correctly?” – “Yeah, lean forward more.” – “Okay.” – “No. More.” – “Okay.” – “Why are you leaning back still? Just lean forward”… “Okay that’s good”. Alright, leaning forward enough, check.

Damn this gun is getting heavy.

    Alright. List is done…

I breathe, and I can see my breath in front of me as I try to hold the gun steady enough to line up the site with the target. The gun is heavy, so it’s not as easy as I thought it would be.

My finger’s hinged around the trigger. The safety’s off. Here we go!

    I breathe again.

I put pressure on the trigger. It pulls a little harder than I thought it would, and BANG!

The gun goes off, I scream, and, yes there is kickback.

Awesome! I’m not sure if I hit the target at that point or not, but that feeling was incredible. Talk about control. The ultimate form of safety.

I know – some people see guns as dangerous and terrifying. However, how I see it, is if I have a gun (a good guy has a gun) and I fully know how to handle it, I am safe. I am in control. I’m not saying that I’m an expert obviously. I’ve shot a gun twice in my life at this point (I’m not even good, we will find out in a few minutes when we go check the targets) – but it’s a start.

I shot it a few more times and we went and looked at the targets. There were 4 targets on the board. Two on top and two on the bottom.

I hit none of them. I got the board, though, so that’s an accomplishment!

The most thrilling and fun part for me came next, when we shot my dad’s pistol.

I remember holding a fake gun in one of those shooting rooms at the sports stores, but my brother reminds me how to hold it correctly. The site is different from the rifle we just shot since instead of a line and circle, I have 3 lines to line up. I take my first shot. I did not scream. There is more kickback than the rifle, so maybe the boys were right about the rifle being easier.

I didn’t even hit the board. The bullet flew into the dirt pile behind the targets.

I shoot again. The dirt behind the target explodes, making it obvious that I missed again.

Again, line everything up. Take a breath. Pull the trigger. The dirt sprays again. I’m frustrated.

My dad shows me how to hold the gun a little differently than how my brother holds it. Left hand swoops here, thumbs lined up here, make sure arms are this way…

I line up the sites. Take the safety off. Take a breath. Brace myself. Pull the trigger.

Boom! That one hits the bull’s eye! Not just the board, not the target, but I hit the bull’s eye!

I yell! I laugh. I put the safety back on and perform a victory dance. Nope. I don’t want to shoot again. I just got the bull’s eye – I’m awesome!

My dad and brother go next, hitting only the targets, because they are apparently more awesome, and Nathan shoots his rifle again.

We go through one more round with everyone, and this time, I hit only the target with no misses!

The whole experience was invigorating! I loved it, and we will be doing this again!

Not only did we get to cross shooting a gun off of the Bucket List, but we are both more comfortable with how to load his gun and be safe with it if we ever need it in an emergency for safety. We all left with massive grins on our faces, and Nathan and I left with a sense of accomplishment, excitement, and momentum to continue with our Bucket List Journey!

Thank you for joining us on this journey and taking the time to read this and be a part of our adventures with us! We look forward to crossing off more lines and sharing our experiences with you!

#47 - Drive Route 66 (Part 1, Preparing for the trip)

See our full list of bucket list items here.

I called Nathan from work incredibly stressed out, yet again. "I'm not going to make it home to eat dinner with you. Just go to bed and I'll see you in the morning. I'm so sorry..." This was the 3rd night in a row. I missed my husband, my dog, my house, and my sanity.

"I can't survive like this," I thought. I have to get away from this place. I was burnt out, exhausted, and angry. I was getting migraines almost every day from stress and my back was in constant pain from knots.

When the weekend finally came, I just wanted to stay in bed for the full two days. We were laying in bed Saturday morning, and we decided I needed a change. I wasn't ready for an extreme change, like leaving my job, but what we came up with really did change our lives. I decided to go get a massage to help with my back problems, which actually took two grueling hour-long sessions, one week after the other. My masseuse said it was one of the worst cases of knots she's ever had to work through. Afterwards, through all that pain, I felt 99% better. That was a start.

The second idea we had was to take a long vacation away from work to relax and recharge. I not only needed time away from the office, but, honestly, I felt like I needed time away from the world. I didn't know what that meant for me at the time, but I learned throughout the trip that it meant time away from buildings, televisions, timelines, etc. Route 66 was exactly what I needed. It felt like a trip back in time, where everything was just a little slower and slightly more relaxed. Relatively, though, it felt like a massive change of pace.

Driving Route 66 was an unforgettable experience. We took 2 1/2 weeks off of work in December/January and drove from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California.

    Preparing for the trip:

We needed to focus on our tight-ish budget since 2 1/2 weeks on the road could be extremely expensive if we ate out for every meal and stayed in hotels every night.

Nathan worked hard to transform the truck into something resembling a camper that we could sleep in. Through a lot of searching and patience, he was able to find a truck vault (basically storage drawers for the truck bed, flat on top with two drawers that pull out from the back by the tailgate) and a topper at awesome deals on Craigslist.

I'll be honest, I was slightly dreading sleeping in the back of a truck for 2 weeks. So I thought of a few things to spruce it up back there to make it a little more 'homey'.

I bought a camping queen-size mattress from Amazon. This was actually really comfortable. Since the trip, we've had a ton of guests sleep on it at our house, and they've all commented on how comfortable it is!

I also made some curtains for the back of the truck. I figured with sleeping, and changing, and everything going on back there, it would be a good idea to make sure we had some privacy. They also helped a ton to keep the heat in on cold nights. I sewed up some of this fabric into simple curtains and added some fastener to the fabric and all around the windows. It was super simple! Then just stuck them up at night and took them down in the mornings. I don't know if it's because I'm from Minnesota, or if this is a general thing, but the plaid flannel made it much more cozy back there!

We bought a tiny camping stove and a bunch of canned goods for dinners and breakfasts.

Also - no showers! The body wipes I bought aren't available anymore, but I found these body wipes that look similar. Body wipes and dry shampoo kept us smelling and feeling fresh. We just used a couple wipes and I used the dry shampoo every morning instead of a shower, and we were good to go!

We used a water jug for drinking water and brushing our teeth/splashing our faces in the morning. The one I linked is actually different from what we had. We had a normal tube shaped one, which was fine, but I think the square one would be better to help prevent leaks and stay upright.

    That was basically it.

The only thing I would have changed (if I could have) is taking more time to do the trip. I didn't do a ton of research on the route, so I didn't realize that most of Route 66 is literally a road on the side of highways, which, obviously takes much more time than I anticipated.

I'll post the actual trip details on the next post.

Just a reminder: Our world is such an amazing place. There is no reason for anyone to not enjoy their lives they way they were meant to. We only get one life. We get one shot. Are you wasting it, or are you living it to the fullest?

Thank you for joining us on this journey!

#84 Get Pulled behind a Snowmobile/Jetski in the Giant Satellite Dish that’s Buried in the Woods at the Cabin

Wow – that is a specific item for the bucket list, yes, but my brother and I thought it would be hilarious. He thought of the idea and tried it with his friends last summer behind the jet ski.
I thought it was dangerous, and dumb (but funny!).

However, on this journey, we are trying things that we wouldn’t normally be comfortable doing.

Besides, why not? What’s the worst that could happen?

Actually, don’t answer that. And I’m not going to think about it.

So, we went to the cabin. My brother got the satellite dish out of the woods and drilled a hole at the edge. He tied a rope to the dish and we tied the other side around the back of his snowmobile.

We are all super pumped at this point. We get bundled up for this crazy idea. We take this awesome picture with the satellite in the back:

You can’t see the snowmobile, but my brother is straddling it below the camera. Nathan and I buckled our helmets on after the picture and hopped into the dish. It’s around 6 feet in width.

The lake is frozen, so we decide to goof off there, away from all the trees.

The dish is huge, so you have to do a mini hop to get in there. It doesn’t seem as slippery as I would have thought. We sit down cross-legged because we didn’t know what to expect. Joey hits the gas, and we topple backwards laughing. Joey looks back and sees that we are fine so he goes faster and faster until we have to hoist ourselves closer to the front of the dish so we don’t slip off. There is snow flying everywhere, so we can’t see what way we are going or when he plans on turning, or which way!

He stops, and he’s laughing so hard. Apparently there’s a little hole in the middle of the dish (for mounting, if you were using this dish as a satellite dish I guess K) and the snow is just shooting up and out of the hole into our faces and we are just sitting there like bumbling idiots, letting it happen.

So now, I lay my body over the hole and Nathan hops on the snowmobile and Joey jumps in with me.

There’s snow everywhere, and I push out as much as I can before Nathan fires up the snowmobile.

He hits it and Joey and I fly back! Apparently, the snow made the dish slippery. I’m trying desperately to stay in the dish at this point and I’m on my stomach just grasping at nothing. Joey’s up at the front of the dish laying down and holding onto the front to keep himself on.

Every time I try to hoist myself closer to the front, I slide right back. My feet are on the back edge and Nathan’s starting to turn us to the left. The dish swoops to the right, and so do me and Joey. Now

I’m off the hole, and the snow is flying everywhere again, so we can’t see. In my attempt to get my chest on the hole to block the snow, Nathan switches directions again, and my body slides back to the left, but now my face is right next to the snow geyser and  it’s filling my face mask on my helmet with snow. I turn away, get my hand over the snow shooting up, but now I can’t see anything because my helmet is covered with snow. I can see my brother holding on for dear life, but he does have the energy to turn around and bust out laughing at me..

At this point, Nathan decides to straighten the snowmobile back out and hit the gas. We both fly off… and by fly off, I mean, we’re both on our stomachs and just limp from exhaustion from laughing and trying to hold on that we more just slide slowly off. But the ride isn’t slow, so once we hit the snow, our bodies go careening backwards. And we slide and slide, and I was surprised by how long we slid for! When we stood up, we saw our slide marks and couldn’t stop laughing. I fell off at a slightly different time and angle then Joey and he had slid about 20 feet in a different direction from me, but you could see the slide marks that our bodies made and they were about 20 feet each too!

Nathan sped back to make sure we were okay, and we were more than okay! That was such a rush!
I pulled the boys for a while until they tumbled off, and then I hopped back in the dish with Nathan, and Joey drove.

I knew more of what to expect this time, so I held on to the front of the dish. Joey started pulling, and Nathan immediately turned it into a game. Who can stay on the longest? Which means, he was trying to tug me off of my holding place, but I was holding on for dear life. Joey was swinging us right, left, right again. My hands were sliding down the rim as we swung right, and then when he would switch directions, I would be dangerously close to falling off face first. By now the satellite dish was like ice, where we couldn’t lay still without sliding in whichever direction our momentum was pulling us.

At one point, Nathan was almost off, but he grabbed onto my legs and was able to pull himself fully back on, but then I slid back and he was trying to hold me on (because he remembered he’s a great husband and doesn’t want me to get hurt ;) ) but his efforts were mute as my one leg slid, followed very quickly by the other. I was a warrior though (remember the game - Who can stay on the longest?), and held onto his foot and pulled that turd off right along with me. There was snow everywhere on that fall! In my jacket, helmet, snow pants, gloves, everywhere!

We, unfortunately, didn’t get any videos because this was on Sunday after a pretty decent snowfall and my parents had already left to get back to the cities.

The whole experience was thrilling! We were out there for a good half day of fun. I had no idea we could have that much fun on a satellite dish.

Thank you for joining us on this journey and taking the time to read this and be a part of our journey with us! We look forward to crossing off more items and sharing our experiences with you!

    The Bucket List

In the first post, I talked about why we are changing the way we live our lives; how we are going to start living our lives to the fullest.

We are on a huge kick right now and already have 3 things crossed off of the list in the last week! I will do a single post for each item we cross off, but it would obviously be way better to make a list to actually cross off.

The list is below, but it will never stay the same. We are going to add to it as we think/see/hear of awesome adventures that we have to try!

Most of the items on the list are something we both want to try, but some things might be something that only one of us is interested in, so I will just put our names in parentheses after it. Although most things we are going to do together, one of my bucket list items is to get a couples massage with my mom. See how that might be a little weird if my husband also joined? HA!

We want to live a life we look forward to every day. By continuously adding to it (and crossing things off as they're accomplished), that gives us room to be creative and to make sure that we are always challenged to keep living an epic life!

We would seriously appreciate if anyone has any recommendations to add to the list, that you type them in the comments below. (Almost) nothing is too big or too small to add! - the "Almost" is there because, while we do want to be super adventurous, we don't want to spend our entire lives' savings on a yacht (although owning a yacht would be BOMB!).

I will number everything on the list and name each of the posts after them so each crossed-off item can be easily found with the story and pictures behind it!

Thank you for taking this journey with us! Without further ado, here is the Bucket List:

    1. Start a blog - here is the first blog post, talking about why we are changing our lives!
    2. Go skinny dipping
    3. Go paint balling
    4. See the Grand Canyon
    5. Be in my best friend's wedding
    6. Have a sleepover in a blanket fort
    7. Send a present to a soldier
    8. Get six pack abs
    9. Start a cheer during a professional sports game
    10. Go on the Skydeck in Chicago
    11. Shoot a gun
    12. Learn the dance from the movie Something Borrowed
    13. Stand in 4 states at once
