#47 - Drive Route 66 (Part 3, Our Crazy End to the Trip!)

We made it to California, but decided to spend the night in one of their national parks right before we head through LA to get to our final destination - Santa Monica!

We slept in the back of the truck most nights on the trip. At first it was difficult. We found rest stops along the way and parked the truck to sleep. Those nights were noisy. There were constantly headlights blowing by the truck. There was no privacy to change or anything, obviously. We knew that wasn't going to work for the whole trip. After a couple of nights of doing that, we started planning our days around ending at a national park. We paid a small fee to get into the parks so we could spend our nights and mornings waking up to the following picturesque scenes instead of gross rest stops.

We relaxed, went on some small hikes in the forests and around lakes, had bonfires, and ate simple suppers and breakfasts. It was like a really long camping trip without waking up to the same view twice, which meant, every morning was a new view that would take my breath away.

While we were there in California, we relaxed by the bonfire, brought our dog for a hike, and talked about what else we wanted out of life. It was a nice beginning of the end of our trip.

It got dark but neither of us wanted to go to sleep. It was such a beautiful night and the stars were immaculate. When we looked up at the sky, we saw the following:
These lights kept going on and on. They were moving! It was the craziest sight! We looked on social media, and people were already posting about them! Apparently it was a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that nobody knew was going to go that night... hmmm... very odd.

Anyway, the next morning, we made our way to Santa Monica. We watched people working out at Muscle Beach and then walked down the Santa Monica Pier to the end of our Route 66 journey. We made it!!

We were sad to get to the end, but seeing that 'End of the Trail' sign left me with a huge sense of accomplishment!

We made our way straight back home, spending nights with friends on the way.

Our world is such an amazing place. There is no reason for anyone to not enjoy their lives they way they were meant to. We only get one life. We get one shot. Are you wasting it, or are you living it to the fullest?
